Giorgio Morandi
Giorgio Morandi (Italian, 1890-1964), Still Life (Natura morta), 1956
Giorgio Morandi, 1890-1964, September 16, 2008-December 14, 2008, The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Often referred to as a "painter's painter," Giorgio Morandi is considered among the greatest of the 20th century. Shrouded in a mythology of solitude, his paintings, watercolors, drawings and etchings manifest a transcendence in their deceptive monotony. This is the first major retrospective of the artist in the U.S., and it is well worth the trip.
